For most of my weddings, I shoot an engagement session with the couple, so I get a chance to know them before the wedding day. I met Amy and David before their wedding, but I didn’t really get to know them until the day of. I’m so glad I did. Amy and David’s Wedding at The Barn at Hat Creek Ranch was one fun, interesting, and relaxed wedding.
Amy and David’s Wedding at The Barn at Hat Creek Ranch
We started the day at a family friend’s house shooting details. As you could guess from the fact that the wedding was at a barn, Amy had some country details, but she also had some extremely personal ones as well. She had cowboy boots, of course, and her flowers and flower basket were covered with burlap. On the bouquet, she had two small photos attached, I believe of grandparents on their wedding day. She also had this cool wooden box for holding the rings. David’s ring was pretty special. It had their names and dates etched on the side of it. Amy’s garter was also special. She added a little razorback to it. The best detail was Amy’s gift. David’s uncle had recently passed away, and she was giving David his watch.
I had never been to The Barn at Hat Creek before, and after awhile of driving, I was wondering if we would get there. We were out in the middle of the country, but then out of nowhere was this big barn and ranch. Outside you have this old truck with lights leading up to the barn and lots of field and space. Inside you have a long straight stretch for the ceremony and two side spots for tables. Then you have a whole separate area upstairs for more people.
Amy and David really made this wedding fit their personality. Outside was a boat full of beer, a groomsmen cake with animals on it, and kids running around with pop guns. Everyone was just in a good mood and had fun the whole night.
One thing I really enjoyed was doing some portraits later that night. We used the truck and the lights to make some cool environmental shots. The first ones just had Amy and David out in front of the barn. Then, they were up in the truck with the lights leading down to them.
Amy and David’s Wedding at The Barn at Hat Creek was a great country experience. I loved being a part of it and getting to hang out with some truly nice people. This was my first wedding at The Barn at Hat Creek Ranch, but I’m hoping to shoot some more in the future.
