Big Moments from the Past Two Weeks

Well, it’s been a few days since my last post. I’ve been consistently posting every other day for the last few months now, but the last week has been crazy busy. Today instead of talking about some shoot that I did or equipment or anything, I thought I’d talk about some of the big moments from the past two weeks.

Big Moments from the Past Two Weeks

In the past two weeks, we have had two stressful situations relating to our family. For those that don’t know, our son Holden was born with a major heart defect and had to have open heart surgery when he was about a week old. They fixed the major issue, but we still have to go in for a yearly checkup to make sure everything is ok. Two weeks ago it was time for this years checkup, so you can imagine how stressful that can be. Holden was  real champ and watched cartoons the whole time, and we got some great news. Not only is he doing well, things are actually improving. That was our first stressor. The other was last Thursday. My wife is pregnant with our third child and because of Holden’s heart issue, we have to have detailed scans done on every pregnancy. We had to drive all the way to Little Rock for the scan but it was worth it. Everything was normal!

Friday was also a busy day for me, but not scary like my other situations. Friday was Rogers Heritage’s graduation. This graduating class was the last 7th grade group I taught at Oakdale, so they hold a special place in my heart. It’s been five years since I have seen this group, but I still recognized a lot of names and had memories pop up for most of them. Unfortunately I had to leave early or I would have loved to stay and talk to all of them. Still, just being there and seeing some of them walk was a great experience.

So, why is a photographer talking about all of this personal stuff? Well, first, I think it’s good to share my personal life, so people can see who I am. I’m often thrown into other people’s experiences, but they rarely get to see what my life is like. The real big reason though goes to a point I’ve made several times: memories fade but photos are forever. For all these big moments from the past, I have photos, and these photos make sure that I can keep remembering and experiencing those moments. Without photos we would forget so much. I know I am extremely thankful for all the photos I have of my own life and my families, and I feel so happy to be able to share that gift with others.
