I’ve been out of the public education world for about a year now, but I can’t seem to get away from teaching people. Last year I did two presentations in the Fayetteville School District and then I put on a workshop as well. Many of my blog posts are educational, and now I’m even writing for another photography blog. With all of that said, I’m starting a new adventure in creating educational photography videos. I’m going to be creating live and recorded content for photographers, wedding vendors, and of course, engaged couples.
Creating Educational Photography Videos
There are a few different reasons why I’m changing things up. I’ve noticed that people these days don’t tend to enjoy reading as much. Most people will read a few sentences and then move on. Video, on the other hand, can at least get there attention for like 25 seconds. So, the hope is that by adding video, more people will be attracted and actually pay attention and learn something. Two, making videos is probably quicker. Sometimes a blog post can take me 30 or more minutes. With a video, I can just hop on there, say my stuff, and move on. Last and probably the biggest, with video I can interact with people. If I’m doing a live video, people can ask me questions, and I can answer them right then and there. It’s a much easier way to give people the answers and info they need. Now, this doesn’t mean I’m quitting the blog. I will continue writing on here. The good news is that now I’ll be including videos in some of them as well!
At this point, I’m not sure the format for all of this stuff. I just recently made a video for Radiopopper, but that was much more involved than what I’m thinking. The videos will probably consist of me sitting and talking and showing things on my computer. I’m also trying to figure out how to deliver all of this. I’m contemplating setting up groups for the different areas: photography education, wedding business, and engaged couples. I don’t think it would make that much sense to have them all grouped together since they are so, so different. Just because you’re getting married doesn’t mean you want to learn photography. Just because you want to learn photography doesn’t mean you have any interest in weddings.
That’s kind of where I am in the process of creating educational photography videos. I’ve got the equipment all bought, and now I just have to iron out the details. I hope to start creating some content next week, so be on the lookout, and if there’s anything you’d like me to talk about, please leave a comment or send me a message! Have a great day!
