Just a few days ago, my wife and I celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary. It’s crazy to think that we’ve been married for that long. Well, just recently, I photographed Garrett and Jaden’s University Baptist Church wedding, and it reminded me a lot of my wedding from back in the day.
Garrett and Jaden’s University Baptist Church wedding
The first big similarity was that these two are pretty young. We got married right out of college, and we were only 23. A lot of my couples recently have been more in the 28-30 range, but these two are closer to where we were.
The second big similarity was the location. Growing up, I went to University Baptist Church. In college, I went to their college ministry and so did Ashley. When we got engaged, we ended up choosing UBC for our wedding. It was exciting to return there after all those years for Garret and Jaden’s wedding. They ended up using the main sanctuary where we used the college one, but it was still a blast from the past walking around there.
The reception also reminded me of our own. I see a lot of crazy receptions with dancing and partying, but ours was more casual. We just hung out and talked with people. We also didn’t really do food, but instead, we did have our own ice cream vendor. Garret and Jaden’s reception was also very low key and they had their own coffee bar.
Garret and Jaden are such a sweet couple. I really enjoyed hanging out with them and their wedding party. It was a nice laid back day where everyone was just having fun. The groomsmen were even playing four square before the ceremony. I’ve only photographed two other weddings at UBC, so I loved getting a chance to photograph Garrett and Jaden’s University Baptist Church wedding. It was also nice to be reminded of my own big day.
