About a month ago, my wife and I took our daughter Juliet on a Disney Cruise, and it was amazing! They had so much going on the whole time and so many different things. The big thing that stuck out in my mind, though, was that my wife and I were able to have fun. As we all know, kids can need a lot of attention. Honestly, I thought I’d be just following my daughter around all day. Well, the Disney Cruise helped us out. They had an area where kids could go and play and were safe, so we could go off and have fun as well.
Weddings can be the same way for adults. I often see parents chasing around children during the ceremony and then throughout the rest of the night. How much fun can that be? The adults are often the ones that know the couple, so it’s really sad that they don’t get to have any fun. It doesn’t have to be that way. Here are some tips on how to keep kids entertained at a wedding.
How to Keep Kids Entertained at a Wedding
Dance Floor
Most kids love to dance. I’ll often get some really interesting photos of kids out on the dance floor. Having a dance floor and DJ at your wedding can keep kids entertained for hours. They will be out there shaking and flopping around and never run out of energy!
Kids Table
Another interesting thing I’ve seen at several weddings is a kids table. Basically, there is a table or activities for kids to do at a table. I’ve seen lots of coloring books and other types of crafts. This will definitely keep the kids seated and entertained.
Game Station
Not all kids like dancing or coloring, so you need an option for these kids and older kids. How about a game station? This could be all types of things. It could be Baggo, giant Jenga, or even actual video games. There are several of these retro game systems out that are loaded with games. You could get two TVs going for maybe $100. I know I would have loved that as a kid.
Kids Zone
If you’re looking to keep the kids out of trouble but want them to have some freedom, you could create a kid zone. This is just a designated area for the kids to stay and do their thing. It could be a room or you could mark off an area.
Hire Someone
All of these ideas are great, but adults still can’t have fun if they are having to monitor kids on the dance floor or a game area. You need someone to be in charge of these things, and don’t ask another guest! Hire someone! I’m sure there are tons of babysitters out there that could do this. Hire 2 or 3 babysitters, spend about $80, and let the adults actually enjoy the wedding!
I know some of this sounds selfish and harsh. Yes, I do think adults should be free to have fun at weddings, but there is more to all of this. There are plenty of kids that are extremely bored at weddings. These ideas will keep those kids entrained as well. It’s really a win-win situation. Both the adults and the kids will have a good time. If you like any of these ideas on how to keep kids entertained or if you have another idea, I’d love to hear it.
