Besides photography, the venue is one of the biggest and first things a bride will book. I feel like I can create good photos in almost any condition, but a beautiful venue definitely makes my life easier. This morning I did some engagements, so I thought I’d talk about the Wedding Photos at the Stone Chapel at Matt Lane Farm .
Wedding Photos at the Stone Chapel at Matt Lane Farm
This venue has a pretty cool backstory. From what I understand, the chapel was built on the family’s land for the two daughters’ weddings. Since then, they have opened it to the public and are having a ton of weddings.
The first thing you will notice is the driveway up to the venue. It’s a long stretch of road with these giant trees on both sides of the road. To the right is a field with horses. At the last wedding I shot there, we managed to get a few of them to come up to us, so that was cool.
The chapel is just a little bit further down. It’s a beautiful stone building with these old wood doors. Right out front, there is a walkway with bell to ring at the end of ceremonies. If you walk past that, it opens into a small courtyard that has these trees that surround it. Inside the chapel you have an entryway that can hold some extra people and is used for guestbooks. Then you walk directly into the ceremony area. It’s a nice wide open room with two rows of seats. What I really like is that in the middle, there is a large gap between the seats that lead to the dressing room in one direction and to another room that’s commonly used for the cakes and food. I love this space because it gives me a place to hide during the procession and also a place to put cameras when we are doing video. Most places don’t have this open area. At the front of the chapel, there is a raised platform, and it’s large, so it can hold big bridal parties. Some churches are small and it makes it hard to get good photos when the bridal party is all cramped together. On the back wall, you have two big windows that let in a ton of natural light. I love that they are to the side and not directly behind the couple. When the window is behind the couple, it can make the photos blown out.
For receptions, they have a separate building outside the chapel. It’s probably around 30-40 yards long, so there’s plenty of room for eating and dancing. Also, you have a large deck and concrete section for overflow or if you want to be outside. I love having so much space.
Just recently, they have started building an outside ceremony location. It’s a brick wall with a platform, but there are no side walls or ceiling. It is a great backdrop and leaves room for as many people as you need. This is a big plus. If the weather is nice, brides can have their weddings outside in the beautiful light, and if it gets rainy, they can move inside.
Your Wedding Photos at Stone Chapel at Matt Lane Farm will turn out wonderful. It’s a relatively new venue for me, but I love going there because of it’s beauty and space. I have more weddings there, so I’ll be posting those in the future.
